Return our bodies, performance, Giardini della biennale, Venice (Italy), 2026

This performance is directed at European countries that have museums holding bodies, both on display and in storage—bodies of our ancestors, bodies that have not been returned to their countries of origin, bodies that their countries of origin have been demanding be returned for a very long time, and which Europe has not returned. The work directly joins these voices and demands the return of our ancestors' bodies. It is a minimalist, direct action performance, born from my inner voice and an internal force that led me to create this work.

The performance's route included the Spanish, Belgian, Dutch, French, and British Pavilions. The performance began in the Spanish Pavilion, then I went to the Belgian Pavilion, then to the Dutch Pavilion, and when I was heading to the French and British Pavilions, I was stopped by the police and therefore could not complete the route. I want to clarify that this performance is part of my research and work focused on creating a path toward the restitution of the works, riches, natural resources, and bodies that were plundered during colonization. This includes not only Cuba, my country of origin, but also the Caribbean, the Americas, Africa, and other regions. It is a performance that joins many other works in which I investigate the restitution of all that has been looted.
