Un chino llega a Matanzas… Installation. Variable dimensions, 2015
The voices of my family members murmur at the sound-installation. The voices are telling memories of my Chinese great-grandfather Arcadio Shang who moved to Matanzas, Cuba. The silk fabric bands in the space have a hand written poem made by myself in homage to his memory. The process and the unfinished story of a movie resemble the poem I write for my great-grandfather before, during and after the exhibition of the work. A poem that will always be in process.
Reminiscences of a cinema in dialogue with the reminiscences of the story of my great great grandfather is the essence of my work located in the former cinema Aguila de Oro (Golden Eagle). Fragments of history lost in the exhausted minds of my family members trying to remind, traveling to their childhood between places that only they know and, eager to share, trying to defy the nature of oblivion. Memories mixing up, absent words or present words. A story that has yet scenes to be discover.
