Saberes, 2026

From a young age, my parents in Cuba cured me with remedies made from wild plants that grew in the streets or gardens of our neighbors. I remember the color, the smell, and the taste of the Romerillo infusion whenever I had a cold; the oregano leaves fried in oil, a sure cure for an earache that seemed endless; the plantain leaf infusion to get rid of a cold; the decoctions or direct application of Caisimon (Piper auritum) leaves to reduce the swelling of a sprain; and much more. These are healing remedies that foster social interaction, promote overall well-being, and are passed down simply and freely from generation to generation, without restrictions or monopolies. This garden was created in remembrance of my memories.
